Our award-winning Street of Dreams home
Welcome to Château
du Bois

The discriminating patrons of the Street of Dreams
recognize and appreciate grandeur when they see it. That’s
why Château du Bois, the exquisite 18-room French-inspired
estate we built at DarkHorse Golf Club near Auburn, won two of
the four awards given to homes in the 2006 Street of Dreams tour.
In balloting by visitors who took the Street of Dreams
home tour, Château du Bois was named the winner of the “Best
of Show” and “Best Architectural Design” awards.

Stunningly elegant Château do Bois, two years
in the making, emulates the grace and comfort of a European country
home. Set atop a hill among ancient sentinel oak trees, distant
from the road at the end of a long paver-stoned driveway, the home
affords a commanding view of the Sierra foothills and acclaimed
DarkHorse Golf Club.
Château do Bois pays ample tribute to
its name—which means “Castle of Wood”—with
inspired use of Old World wide-plank walnut floors, furniture-quality
cabinetry, a solid wood box beamed ceiling in the private study,
and magnificent barreled ceilings of handcrafted solid alder wood
beams in the grand foyer and the great room.
With accents of rustic
stone, tall windows, French doors and elaborate roof lines, Château
du Bois is an 18-room French-inspired château encompassing
four bedrooms, four full and two half baths, and five fireplaces.
The home’s designer, Dean Stevenson of Stevenson Residential
Designs in Granite Bay, describes his creation as “an estate
versatile enough to serve as a cozy abode for two, to stage an
elegant dinner, to host family at the holidays, or to accommodate
an entourage for a sprawling party. This is truly a home for all
seasons and all reasons.”
The home’s gorgeous gourmet
kitchen and octagonal breakfast nook are adjoined by a loggia—a
covered exterior gallery with a fireplace, outdoor kitchen with
built-in barbecue, and an entertainment center. The interior food
preparation area includes a separate fully functional butler’s
pantry with its own refrigerator, oven, warming drawer and a built-in
coffeemaker.
The formal dining room epitomizes Mediterranean elegance
with its bowed wall of windows, hand-painted domed ceiling and
wall mural reminiscent of a Tuscan coastal setting.
A private hallway
of art niches leads to the master suite, a romantic retreat with
a fireplace, vaulted ceiling, private deck, and views of the pool,
golf course and mountains. Enjoy the soothing feel of warmed limestone
floors in the spacious master bath, with its own fireplace adjacent
to the infinity-edge spa tub.
The lower level of Château
du Bois is designed for entertainment. With an enormous pub-style
wet bar, a wine cellar, two-sided fireplace, and state-of-the-art
integrated home automation system that controls a wall of four
TVs sure to please even the most fanatical sports enthusiasts,
this is the ultimate home entertainment room. It overlooks your
private putting green, waterfalls and ponds and an infinity-edge
swimming pool that blends into the landscape and the pristine Sierra
Foothills skies.
The home also includes a four-car garage, above
which is a large loft—isolated from the rest of the home—equipped
with a home theater and bar.
This classic estate has a rustic,
informal and charming architectural style reminiscent of life in
a remote European mountain village, with elegance and sophistication.
Abundant natural illumination, warm colors and thoughtful use of
indirect lighting lend a sense of intimacy even amidst the grandeur
of the home.
Château du Bois is truly the woodland castle
of your dreams.
